AN IMPORTANT REMINDER

In the event of emergency, call 911, give your name and address but be sure to tell the dispatcher that you are in Sandoval County.

Due to the nature of where we live, phone calls could end up in Bernalillo or Santa Fe County.  Our community responders are also being encoded to Bernalillo County to respond.  This forces emergency crews to come from a distance, rather than our highly trained and committed neighbors being sent from inside our neighborhood. We’re working with Sandoval County to help address the issues and rectify the situation.

La Madera VOLUNTEER Fire and EMS is on call to provide emergency assistance to our community, 24/7, every day of the year.  Our volunteers live next door and know most of us by name.  They respond from a couple of houses down.

Know that if you use your cell phone to call 911, your call goes to the nearest tower, which might even be Santa Fe.  The Dispatcher will request your location and they will direct the call for assistance to the best of their ability, but they don’t know our situation, please be sure to tell the dispatcher you are in Sandoval County.

Response times in an emergency are critical.  Our volunteers live here and respond as soon as their pagers go off, and respond at the same time or before Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue. The La Madera Volunteers also coordinate transport for medical emergencies and get incoming support started for fires quickly.

We are lucky to have a volunteer group made up of PhDs, MDs, Architects, Engineers, Service Members, and Captains of Industry. They bring not only their professional experience, but thousands of training hours each year, to every call. We are a unique community, in a unique spot, with a unique asset. Let make sure we take advantage of it.

BE INFORMED. BE SAFE.

BE SURE TO TELL 911 YOU ARE IN SANDOVAL COUNTY
